Wrist Pain at Work in Winnipeg: When to Book Physiotherapy

September 29, 2026•2 min read

A wrist that hurts while typing may feel very different from one that hurts while carrying a bag or using a tool. If symptoms are affecting work, record the task that brings them on. That helps a clinician look beyond the job title and understand the movement and load involved.

Make a short task map

List the activities that provoke symptoms: gripping, lifting, twisting, keyboard use, vibrating tools, or hobbies. Note which hand is affected, where pain sits, and whether you have swelling, numbness, tingling, or loss of grip. Record how long it takes to settle after the task. This is more useful than assuming every work-related wrist problem is a repetitive strain injury.

The NHS wrist pain guide describes several possible causes of wrist symptoms and cautions against self-diagnosis.

Do not treat a possible fracture as a routine strain

After a fall or sudden injury, severe pain, visible deformity, inability to move the wrist or hold objects, or loss of feeling calls for urgent medical advice. A hot, very swollen wrist with fever also needs prompt attention. The NHS warning-sign guidance explains why those changes can point to a fracture or infection.

Plan a workable return to tasks

Ask what the assessment suggests, whether a temporary task change would help, and which movements can be continued or progressed. If work is the main issue, bring examples such as tool weight, frequency, shifts, and breaks. If an injury happened at work, ask reception about claim paperwork and payment arrangements before booking; our WCB appointment guide explains what to prepare.

Pro-Motion Physiotherapy lists elbow, wrist and hand pain care. A clinician can help decide whether your symptoms fit that service and whether another provider should be involved. This article is distinct from our tennis elbow guide, which focuses on pain at the outer elbow.

Book the right wrist or hand appointment

If gripping, typing, or tool use repeatedly limits work or daily life, a physiotherapy assessment can help you discuss the task and possible next steps. Bring a short task list and note any numbness, swelling, or loss of grip. A fall with severe pain or a changed wrist shape needs prompt medical care rather than a standard appointment.

Pro-Motion Physiotherapy offers elbow, wrist and hand pain care in St. Vital. View available appointments or call (204) 560-2999. If the injury happened at work, tell reception before booking and ask what WCB details or authorization may be needed; a booking does not establish claim approval.
