Before your first appointment after a collision
Tell reception that your appointment relates to a motor vehicle collision. Have your injury date and MPI injury claim details available if you already have them. Bring relevant medical recommendations and describe changes in everyday activities since the collision. If you have not opened an injury claim, consult MPI’s injury claim information; booking with the clinic does not itself open a claim.
Assessment and follow-up care
Your assessment is an opportunity to discuss symptoms, movement difficulties and goals such as returning to work or usual activities. The physiotherapist can explain the findings, proposed care and any need for additional medical assessment. Follow-up appointments allow the plan to be reviewed as your function changes. Ask how progress will be assessed and what to do between visits; neither a recovery date nor a fixed visit count can be promised before assessment.
MPI approval and payment questions
MPI determines eligibility and coverage under its claims process. Before treatment, ask reception whether your coverage has been confirmed and whether any authorization or payment is still required. Tell the clinic if you are seeing another provider for the same injury. Keep relevant claim correspondence and receipts. Do not assume every service or every future appointment is covered simply because you have a claim number.
Returning to the activities that matter
Bring a short description of the tasks you are struggling with, including work duties where relevant. Discuss practical goals and how the plan will be reviewed. If your situation or medical advice changes, let your treating clinician know. The clinic can discuss rehabilitation with you; claim decisions and benefit entitlements remain with MPI.
